Asia Cup 2016 Schedule, Teams, Players, Points Table

Asia Cup 2016 cricket tournament will be held in Bangladesh from 24th February to 6th March. This is the third consecutive time for Bangladesh to host this historic tournament from Asia. There is a huge change in this season of Asia Cup as for the first time in the history of this tournament, it will be played in the T20 format. The current champion of Asia Cup is Sri Lanka. They won the final in 2014 by beating Pakistan. Bangladesh, India, Pakistan & Sri Lanka is regularly playing in this tournament for the last few seasons. Afghanistan played in the last tournament in 2014, while United Arab Emirates & Hong Kong played two times in 2004 and 2008 in this tournament.

The host country Bangladesh has a combination of a sweet and sad memory of Asia Cup so far. They reached the final in 2012 and unfortunately lost by only 2 runs to Pakistan. The 2014 season was not a pleasant story for them as the tigers were not amongst wins at that time. But, the scenario has changed a lot after the change of captaincy in the Bangladesh team. Mashrafe Mortaza has led the tigers to a consecutive 5 series win till now. Recently, the successful BPL T20 2015 also invented some more young talents for this format. So, this time, people are expecting a good performance from the Bangladesh team.

WHY ASIA CUP 2016 IS IN T20 FORMAT?

Then it was announced by ICC that from 2016, Asia Cup will be held in T20 & ODI formats in the alternate times. And it will be decided by the proximity of the ICC main international tournaments, namely ODI World Cup ODI and T20 World Cup. As the next ICC international tournament is the T20 World Cup 2016, the Asia Cup 2016 will be held in T20 format. Similarly, the Asia Cup 2018 will be held in ODI format as it will be just prior to the ODI World Cup 2019.
